A little background on how I got to where I am today with photography.

I have been doing photography now for several years and I have learned one thing for sure.   If you provide exceptional service, they will return.

I recently had a customer who came back to me for some photos.  She told me the story of how she had gone with a less expensive photographer and though the pictures were good, they were not exactly the same type of quality that she had received from me in the past.

I am always happy when customers tell me that they love the photos that they get from me, and I do not get upset if they try out other photographers.  Every one has a budget and though, I am not cheap, I do provide exceptional service and photos.  But I have found that when you go with a less expensive photographer, sometimes you end up getting what you paid for.

I remember a time when I was learning how to shoot.  I was the cheap guy. I was trying hard to make a name for myself and learning from anyone who would teach me.  I learned editing skills from friends and "youtube".  I studied hard for hours in my basement, tirelessly, for months, learning how to take photos and how to edit.  I bugged my fellow photographer friends, who would take time to talk to me and explain to me the secrets of the trade.  They would share tips on what they used to edit and how they took photos.

I  did all of this because I believed in myself and I knew that one day I would no longer be the cheap guy.  I would make it to that next level, and my work would speak for itself.

I guess that is why I did it.  To show myself and those who did not think that I could do it... that I could.  That is also the reason that I am always willing to show other photographers, who want to learn how to shoot, what I have learned.  I have never charged anyone because I was never charged.  I give back just as it was given to me.  Now I do, sometimes, trade help for info , but that is just an easy way for a photographer to get some help and then help others.

Below are a few examples of where my work began to where it is now.  I hope you enjoy seeing the growth as much as I have.

Atlanta Night Shoot!

The other night I went out to the city of Atlanta with a best friend and fellow photographer, David Brown from Photostry Photography, and we walked around town taking photos here and there.  I really did not know what to expect from the images, but I was happily  surprised that some of them came out the way that I had expected.
It was a lot of fun though and I think that I will do it again some time soon.

My Seal of Approval!

I spent some time the other day making wax seals with my log in them.  Years ago I had a company make me a seal with my logo and I use it all the time as my trademark.  I LOVE IT.  I think it portrays elegance and class, not to mention that I know of no other photographer that uses this as a trade mark therefore making it unique.  Here it is.  What to you think.  Leave a comment and tell me.

The Old Wax Seal

I have always been very much a fan of the old royalty wax seal.  They were used to seal letters and documents to ensure authenticity.  Stay tuned to my blog to learn more about how I am incorporating this into my logo and theme.

I just delivered some wall art.

So, last night I delivered a set of photographic prints to the law office of Ryan Reavis, to be used as decor.  One was a 40 inch long panoramic of the Golden Gate Bridge in metallic black and white that will be displayed on an easel.  The other was a gray scale photograph of an island and tree on Lake Lanier that I photographed in a heavy fog.  They are beautiful and  will be great conversation pieces  for his office.
When they are hung,  I will post images.
Alex.

Getting The Most From Your Engagement Session.

The Sweet Engagement

One of the things that I love to do is shoot the engagement session.  It's a great way to photograph love in its basic form.
Usually the couple is ready to go and looking forward to the shoot, (well the girl is at least).  I have found that most guys are a little shy in front of the camera and may not really feel natural or comfortable being all lovey dovey with his wife-to-be in public, especially, when someone shooting pictures of them.
I will tell you this.  I have shot many engagement sessions and the best ones are when the couple is relaxed and comfortable.  If they are, then they will be more loose and easily photographed.  If they are tense, then they are not going to be well photographed.
If you are going to have an engagement session done, you need to understand this.  I can't make you look like you love each other.  You have to do that.  I coach my couples in what to do, but if there is no chemistry there, I can't make it up.
I had couples do an engagement session and their pictures were just...ok.  The reason was that they really did not display much sexual chemistry while they were in front of the camera.
I have also shot couples that were so attracted to each other and had such a strong chemistry that they really did an amazing job and their photos came out amazing.  It is what it is. You've got to have fire if you're going to stay warm.

Here are some tips.

First off, loosen up.  Make sure you both are in a good mood and get plenty of sleep the night before.  If you are hung over or in a tiff, then it will show.

Second, talk about what you want your photos to look like.  Let your man know that he will be holding hands and kissing and hugging and holding you a lot, and that it is ok.  You want him to be prepared in advance for what is to come.

Thirdly, practice.  Yes, practice.  If intimacy is hard for either person, practice being intimate.  Kiss, hold each other.  Do so at a park or somewhere where you have others watching, so that you are not so bashful in front of the camera.  Now I am not saying to make out in public but just get comfortable with loving each other in front of others.

Fourthly, dress the part.  Be comfortable in what you're in and make sure you match.  Bring props that define you as a couple... cowboy hat or favorite shirt that he gave you or that you bought him.
Make the session your own.

Remember, the session will be as good as you make it.  Sooooooo make it good.  The best photos come from a real passion and desire for each other.  The worst photos come when you are trying to make desire look real.
By the way, this is REAL!
